When she’s not roasting coffee for Silver Bean Coffee Co. in Salt Lake City, Jewell Lund can be found climbing on rock or ice. Or, exploring her new-found passion of alpine climbing.

Here, this Outdoor Research ambassador (who we profiled here recently) shares her top 7 women’s climbing gear picks for the spring season—plus a few intriguing personal details.

1. Allout Jacket ($209): This is an awesome jacket for variable conditions. It’s made with Ventia, a lightweight softshell fabric that is waterproof. It’s only a few ounces to add to the pack but is perfect insurance for cooler temps, wind, rain, and snow.
2. Deviator Hoody ($185): This has become my layering hoody for every season of the year. It’s crazy how comfortable this thing is—and how applicable it is for a wide temperature range. It’s got Polartech Power Grid fleece on the arms and hood, and the front torso is made with new Polartech Alpha, a super lightweight breathable insulation. Uh-mazing.
3. Echo Hoody ($59): I throw this layer on for trail runs in the early morning, wind, or light rain. It breathes incredibly well and is low-profile.
4. Ferrosi Pants ($79): This spring I traveled to New Zealand for 4 weeks and lived in Ferrosi pants the whole time. They’re very lightweight but block wind and bead water really well.  They are comfortable and stretchy with an attractive cut; I’ve found myself in these pants for multi-day alpine rock stints, but also feel great in them for nights out on the town.
5. Offline Tank ($62): Pretty darn perfect for working pitches on sunny days. Comfortable, motion-mirroring, flattering.
6. Windsong Trucker Cap ($29): Love the fit of this as well as the graphic that’s on it. It’s a “trucker cap” but I can also be active in it.
7. Flyway Skirt ($60): The length and fabric for this skirt make it a go-to in the summer months. I’ve started stashing one in my car for the apres-climb beer or burrito. Great.

Fav adventure nailed or planned to happen this month? This month I am headed to the Alaska Range to climb a route called the Denali Diamond with my good friend Chantel. Do some good weather dances for us—we’ve been planning it for a year, and we hope it all falls into place!

Typical training schedule this month? This month I’ve been trying to keep momentum from a 5-6 month training program to get ready for Alaska. This has included walking up steep ridgelines with weight in my pack, lifting twice a week, interval runs, and, of course, climbing. It’s interesting to set a training schedule several months in advance: life is dynamic, and I inevitably waiver from my original plan, but I’ve found that embracing that dynamism allows me to take advantage of the opportunities I do have to train.

Book you’re reading this month? I have been considering All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.  I hear he writes beautifully.

Artist playing over and over in your car/headphones this month? This is unusual for me, but I’ve been enjoying the shuffle mechanism on my iPod this month. It’s been nice to jam out to Led Zeppelin and follow it up with an amazing Miles Davis track.

Fav coffee roasting right now? I am on a Central American coffee kick, specifically Colombia. I like Central American coffees because they are bright and open, which is great in the springtime. I like Colombia because it has a fantastic body and low acidity.

I’ve also significantly upped my coffee consumption since the winter months (I blame it on developing a habit from over-consuming coffee in New Zealand in March), and I can’t seem to leave the house without 2 cups of coffee in the morning. Oops!
