National Parks Week starts tomorrow so pick your fav and hit the road. Admission is free to every single one of the 396 U.S. national parks across the country—that’s 84 million acres of the country’s most spectacular scenery, historic landmarks, and mind-blowing trails—from April 21st through April 29th. To sweeten the pot, many of the parks are offering a range of special programs for kids and adults, including Earth Day celebrations on April 22nd. Just in time for the big day, the National Park Service has debuted its “Green Parks Plan for Sustainability,” a comprehensive approach that, it says, will reduce its overall carbon footprint. One specific goal: by 2020, the National Park Service says it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from on-site fossil fuel combustion and electricity consumption by 35 percent and non-irrigation potable water use by 30 percent.
