Eye Candy: Movie Night

[Missed the movie? You can still view this powerful short flick at MoveShake.org.]

Grab a good glass of vino and cozy up in front of your computer screen this evening (June 7th) to catch the premiere of a MoveShake film about the women’s rights-driven Mountain2Mountain organization and its founder, Shannon Galpin.

A single mom, occasional mountain bike racer, and former Pilates instructor from Breckenridge, Colo., Galpin launched Mountain2Mountain after suffering a crumbling marriage and a failed business venture. Also a rape survivor, Galpin wanted to make a real difference for women somewhere and her work with Mountain2Mountain took her passion to Afghanistan, where the charity now delivers real relief for women in conflict zones.

To date, the organization has helped launch a kindergarten in a women’s prison where mothers are incarcerated with their children and also put a rural midwife-training program into play to help reduce the number of childbirth deaths through education and support. She is also funding the construction of a new school for the Afghan National Association of the Deaf, a $500,000 project.

Playing on MoveShake.org at 7pm MDT tonight, June 7th, the film shares Galpin’s journey with Mountain2Mountain, her own personal struggles, and her epic mountain bike ride across the remote and dangerous roads of Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley.

This inspiring flick is part of a series of films that will air on MoveShake.org, which puts the onus on people who are moving and shaking the world in truly positive ways. It will be followed tonight by another short about sea turtle conservationist Julio Solis and a live Q&A session with MoveShake director Allie Bombach and Galpin herself. Cheers.
