What Whittier looked like yesterday.

Resting at the head of the Passage Canal on Prince William Sound 60 miles southeast of Anchorage, the lovely fishing town of Whittier has stunning views (including this one of the Kenai mountain range) and a meager population of 177. Still, it’s vast beauty and outdoor access to hiking, biking, fishing, boating and wildlife viewing bring in over 700,000 visitors each year. The coolest thing to do in Whittier, however, is to spend a day at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a non-profit organization that cares for injured and orphaned animals. Located on 144 acres, this drive-through wildlife center is home to moose, brown bear, elk, caribou, bison, great horned owls, and one bald eagle.
