Gear: The North Face Talia Tote

Searching for a do-everything, hold-everything, outdoorsy girl’s-best-friend kind of bag? The North Face Talia Tote ($70) fits the bill—perfectly.

Billed as a yoga-inspired tote (the backside hosts a mat-compatible sleeve), we found the Talia to be so much more. While testing this bag over the course of nearly four months, it became our daily go-to carryall.

The ultra-lightweight Talia (weighing in at 1 lb. 4 oz.) has a super-roomy zippered main compartment that fits just about everything—keys, notebook, wallet, makeup bag, kids’ snacks and books, and even an iPad. The main compartment features a section of organization pockets.

This 420-denier polyester twill tote also boasts a secondary zippered, padded compartment that easily fits a laptop—we managed to squeeze our 17″ MacBook Pro in there plus a few coloring books. A well-thought-out, smaller front-zip pocket can house quick-grab items like a cell phone, pen, and mints. There is also a side stash pocket, which we occasionally stuffed a water bottle into to top off our load.

Stuffed to the gills, this bag held up extremely well, although the wider soft webbing shoulder straps had a tendency to dig into our shoulder when the Talia was weighted down. We’d also love to see more internal organization pockets but, hey, maybe that’s simply our OCD talking. All in all, The North Face Talia Tote is a slam dunk, especially for the price.
