A moment of felicity—the first woman to cross Antarctica solo completes her journey today.

Today, British adventuress Felicity Aston became not only the first woman to ski alone across Antarctica but also the first person to ski alone across the frozen continent by pure muscle power. Despite screaming headwinds, mind-fraying solitude, and the weight of two sleds laden with supplies, she made it to Hercules Inlet ahead of schedule, traveling the 1,084 miles in 59 days. But, perhaps most amazingly, Aston has not even a wisp of the pretension of other boundary-breaking explorers.
